Robot Masters Transformers toys
Small Transformers remastered for TF fans
Early 2004 Transformers fans around the world became quite excited about rumors of "Remasterings" of their favorite characters. In February rumors started pumping out about another G1 Optimus Prime and Jetfire rendition. Well it turned out to be true. Japan received a new line called "Robot Masters" that are a combination of G2 and G1 favorites as well as some miniaturized fan favorite toys.
Note that each toy comes with a collector card that is just like the old-school tech-specs. Your character's attributes are printed and numbered as well as a chart of their skills. Granted it is in Japanese (frown) but you may be able to see the gist of the toy's strengths and weaknesses. Pictured on the left is the Robot Masters Tech spec for the ultimate villain Starscream.
Robot Masters Stand-Out Toys
RM-01 or the smaller Optimus Prime strikes me as one of the best of the group. It is about a 5" tall remastering that is true to the G1 anime transformations. It turns from truck to Autobot leader and has a gun and missile launcher as accessories. I like both the first release and then the metallic second version that comes with a CD.
Next up are the Autobot and Decepticon jets of the group, RM-05 and RM-06. These particular toys take the same mold feel as the G2 toys from the 1990's. Only this time the G2 toys have been given a much better paint job, joints have been tightened up, and the overall feel is much higher in quality. I surmise that the plastic and quality control is much better.
In closing I can't fail to mention the toy that steals the show-- Starscream. This RM-12 toy is dead on to the robot animation. Then in plane mode the F-15 eagle is exactly in proportion to the real life jet and anime jet. This toy is a brand new sculpt and really shows the beauty of the Starscream cartoon character.
