DX Danguard A
Note the intricate transformation from robot to plane.......one of the first true transformer toys. This robot was produced by Popy Toys Japan around 1977/78 and has the distinction of being one of the first "Transormers". Raideen by Popy is the first credited transformer toy. I happen to think some Microman toys may have beaten that toy out. But as far as "true" and "intricate" transformer, I have to give Danguard Ace a blue ribbon.
Above you can see the great box art and cutaway mechanisms. Popy, a division of Bandai toys, gave every effort to make the toys look realistic.
Instructions are above for Danguard Ace DX.

Above you see why I consider this a "true" and "intricate" transformer. The robot ship takes some time and effort to make. Also note that this is a different, more deluxe toy than the 2 in 1 Danguard Ace toy sold in America under the Shogun Warriors toy line (packaged and distributed by Mattel).
