I've
been working hard on my HGUC 1/144th scale Dendrobium
model. Its one monster of a kit. I've got
a different MS as the pilot of it, however. Not
sure if you're familiar with "Advance of Zeta", but I've
modified a 1/144th RX-121 Hazel Gundam to fit inside
the 1/144th scale Dendrobium kit.
The kit beforehand could not move its knees or elbows,
as they were molded in place. I modified the
kit using parts from the GP03 that was intended for use
on the Dendrobium Orchis so that the knees on the Hazel
can now function, and I switched out the Hazel arms for
the GP03 manipulator arms so that it can reach the weapons
containers and make full use of the Dendrobium Orchis.
I
chose the Hazel as the base unit for the Dendrobium Orchis
because of its unique head sensory systems as well as
its compact, but effective design. Here are some
pictures of the Orchis and Hazel from about 10 months
ago.
The story on the design for the Hazel III is simple.
The GP03S was a great design as a mobile suit by itself
and it had the manupulator arms to make use of the MA
Dendrobium, but the suit itself was not designed well
for MA piloting. The Hazel's head design is perfect for
the Dendrobium because the sensors on the head go in
an arc over the head unit. This gives the Hazel sensory
viewing even while looking downward. The suit also has
a much more compact manuvering design than the GP03S
which makes it less of a target when ejected from the
MA and still more manuverable than its predecessor.
