Aoshima

According to their website, Aoshima (Aoshima Bunka Kyozai Co., Ltd.) was established in 1923 in Shizuoka, Japan, as an airplane research institute. In 1929, they started to manufacture wooden model kits utilizing their accumulated knowledge and experience from airplane operations. Aoshima became the first plastic model company in Japan in 1961, and they are now one of the largest hobby manufacturers in the country.

Aoshima is most well-known in our hobby for its line of Getter Robos and Mazinkaisers, but it also produced many other toys, including amazing diecast renditions of many popular ships from various series, such as Captain Harlock.

Presented below are many of the toys manufactured by Aoshima. Special thanks go out to Tsurugi for supplying information on the various releases and these incredible photographs taken from his personal collection!
